What is the NDIA?

NDIA means National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The NDIA is responsible for implementing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Based on your eligibility to be funded with the NDIS, the NDIA will work with you and your loved ones to assist you in making a support plan that will meet your needs and achieve your goals.

 

What is NDIS ?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme or NDIS provides funding for Australians under the age of 65. Individuals with permanent and significant disability needing reasonable and necessary supports are funded to achieve their goals and live as independently as possible.

 

What makes me eligible for the NDIS  ? 

  • if you have a disability caused by a permanent impairment  
  • If you usually need disability specific supports to complete your day to day tasks. 
  • Are you aged between 7 and 65 
  • the NDIS is available  to  individuals who live in Australia and hold  Australian Citizenship , Permanent Residency, or protected special category Visa Holder.  

For children under 7, an early childhood partner can support in applying for the NDIS and assist in understanding if the NDIS is right for the child. 

What supports are funded by the NDIS?

  • community participation
  • In home supports
  • transportation
  • therapeutic  supports
  • Skill development
  • Household tasks
  • Home and vehicle modifications
  • Assistive Technology and mobility equipment.

What are some supports that will not be funded by NDIS? 

  • the responsibility of another government system or community service
  • not related to a person’s disability
  • relates to day-to-day living costs that are not related to a participant's support needs, or
  • is likely to cause harm to the participant or pose a risk to others.
